His footsteps rang while he ranged closer. “Are you having issues with LT Burr already? She just returned from a mission.”

“Nah. We’re destined to be best friends.” I closed the iron gate of the furnace and swiveled around to perform a desultory salute. “Commander.”

“Grant.” He ambled closer.

“If Burr didn’t come crying to you, then why are you here?”

“I was looking for you. Plus, I could ask the same of you.” Perspiration tracked down my neck, and he watched it with avid attention before asking, “What are you burning?”

“My bras.”

A grin lit up his whole face, putting Nate’s pair of dimples to shame.
“Maybe I should fish them out.”

“Help yourself.” I stepped aside, hoping to break the strange intensity growing between us.

“I think those were personal records you’d rather not have anyone see.” Tilting his head to the side, he gave some serious attention to my chest before adding, “Not your brassieres.”

“I think the heat’s getting to you, sir.”

His advance brought him against me. “What are you hiding?”

My face tight from the fire, from his nearness, I turned my head aside. “A dick that could probably rival yours.”

Fingertips coasting under my chin, he tipped my face to his. “I don’t buy that. I think you could be very soft if you wanted to be, Liz.”

“Call me Grant.” My heart battered in my chest.

Linc’s whisper licked my ear. “Grant, is that how you like it? Cold, impersonal?”
Yes.

“Or long, hot, personal for hours on end?”

Clamping my tongue between my teeth, I let the wash of lust roll over me.

“What were you burning?”

“I like to write sometimes, okay? It helps me clear my head.” This was the second admission he’d coaxed from me in just a few hours. I pushed Linc away and tried to move past him.

He blocked me. “I haven’t dismissed you yet.”

Linc’s fierce visage as smoldering as the dark chamber, I stood my ground, watching his broad shoulders disappear from sight as he moved behind me. Thick forearms hitched around my waist, pressing me flush against his chest. His arousal was rigid and heavy against the small of my back.

“I like it when you tell me the truth, Liz.” His tongue darted and withdrew from the nape of my neck, making way for a husky whisper. “Now, do you remember what General Order No. 1 is?”

“Division wide prohibition of sex during wartime, sir.” My voice sounded breathy while I recited the military policy stating there was a ‘no sex for soldiers’ law in effect.

Warm lips grazed my hammering pulse point before moving up to my ear. “Very good. Think you can keep it up?”

​I spun around. “I can maintain protocol, commander.”

“We’ll just see about that.” A smile flirted around the edges of his lips. “If you’re quite done burning those bras, come with me.”
